The Clock is Ticking

The Clock is Ticking

Every time I hear Terry MacAulliff on national television, I think of “Bagdad” Bob, the Iraqi spokesman who gave the cheery pep talks to the Iraqis even as the city was being encircled by American tanks.

Most reasonable Democrats know the primary is over and that a Clinton exit strategy should be in the works—and soon.  Rachel Maddow, the savvy political analyst for Air America and MSNBC says the Dems have until early June.  That’s it.

If Democrats don’t get their act together by then, start learning to splutter the words President McCain.  We have no hope of re-gaining the White House if we stumble through the summer and into the Convention still hankering for a fight.

History has a lesson for us when it comes to fierce and protracted battles.  After defeating the Romans, King Pyrrhus declared that the cost was so great that “one more such victory would utterly undo him.”

Sens. Obama and Clinton could wrap up this campaign around a conference table anytime they choose, but getting their supporters to come along is problematic.  Healing takes time and we have none to spare.

Is Obama Ready? Hope so.

John Edwards was my choice.  I was a supporter and campaign volunteer, following the media very closely, and over a year ago it was evident what main stream media was going to do in their coverage of the candidates. From the start, it was all about the first woman and first African American. Not the substance of important issues, but Edwards haircuts and "I'm your girl".  The point is, the media have no interest in reporting what the candidates say or do, their only interest is in spinning it for desired effect. Now we have what we have and we will make the best of it. To clamor for Clinton to fold up the tents and go home is understandable, but is Obama ready to lead the way against the Rovian neo-con slander machine and a republican friendly media. I hope so, I truly do, because they are coming and it is going to be nasty. I would like to have less hope and more confidence in Obama being a fighter for what is right for all of America.

I was an Edwards

supporter before he was trampled underfoot in the mad dash to narrow the race before the primary ever got started.  At this point, I'm just waiting for the opportunity to vote for Nixon.

People are in a lot of pain and fear due to the extreme increase in the price of gas.  The cost of food has also risen a lot.  Utilities are no doubt going to increase in a similar rate.  There is a stark difference in experience between Obama and McCain.  Those of us in the lower income brackets tend to be unable to take chances with what few, if any, finances we have remaining in our bank accounts after we pay our bills.  Any way you look at it hope and change falls in the "unknown/taking a chance" category.  It remains to be seen how many people will want to take a chance on relative inexperience vs. wrong-headed republican policies when they're having trouble keeping what they already thought they had.

Congratulations on your projected Obama win in the primary and I wish you luck in the general election on the presidential level.
