Rep. Dempsey Protecting Father's Golden Goose -- St. Charles Co. Fee Office

Last week many Capitol observers were left scratching their heads as House Majority Leader Tom Dempsey used some procedural maneuvering to block amendments to his "ethics" bill.

It now appears that Dempsey's efforts were at blocking a potential amendment that would have placed Missouri's fee offices up for public bid, with the money going to public education.

Dempsey's underhanded tactics surely wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that his father, Ernest Dempsey, runs one of the largest grossing fee offices in the state? With Jetton, Cooper, and company lawyering up for the federal investigation, it looks like sadly Dempsey now passes for an "ethical" Republican.

Support and defend

As a former active-duty and current reservist in the Navy, I took oaths to support and defend the constitution, and feel no need or calling to DENY people constitutional rights of free speech and expression.  Flag burning is one of those free speech issues and while I might not like it, to continue the Rethug efforts to enshrine discrimination and denial of rights into the constitution or any other code of laws is NOT what I signed up to support and defend.

This reminds me when Miss Carnahan voted 40 days before 9/11. She voted for burning the American Flag, yet goes about attempting to look patriotic for our troops in Iraq. This is an embarassment.

Name calling...sad.  Lets face it, Democrats have an anti-war, anti soldier and an overall negative image when looking at their approach to current events due to the fact that the GOP controls everything at the national level.  When dems actually propose an idea that resonates nationally (contract with America  :>) ) to solve major issues instead, of kumbya pipe dream why can't we all get along crapola, they will return to the national stage.  Until then, hug your trees, sniff your flowers, smoke some more green and pretend your gonna take over in the fall elections.  We just love this website, it is a laugh riot!

Anti soldier? Who is anti soldier here? Who are the ones denying soldiers armor on their vehicles and protective gear? And I read a couple of weeks ago that (thanks Halliburton!) soldiers are showering in wastewater.

Yes, the GOP does control everything right now.   The economy stinks. the deficit is through the roof,  Iraq is a complete mess, things are chaotic at best in the White House. I can see why you think it's working out so well!

You can wrap up in that flag a little tighter and keep on fancying yourself some sort of "Super Patriot", but the facts are pretty evident.

Image nitpick, and the distorted information you call the truth is what you should continue to focus on, please stay on liberal message, it's greatly appreaciated.  Super patriot? lmao, better to wrap the flag than burn it, hate it or not, acknowlege it's the only force on earth willing to help free others across the world, now the liberal ilk can reply and drone on with warped "facts" and list of terrible things were doing, have done etc, it contradicts their doctrine too much to ignore.  Please excuse my not replying to further comments, it's just boring this far out of the cycle.  See you in the fall, don't get your hopes up to much ;>)  you still havn't figured it out, and are not likely to until...say 2012 or so...
