Yes, yes — we won primaries. Contrary to popular opinion that conservatives wanted a purge of party, we instead played smartly — playing where we could win. We gave Roy Blunt a pass in Missouri....
To be fair, it wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement from RedState to begin with:
RedState has an interesting relationship with Congressman Roy Blunt (R-MO). There are many times we find ourselves on opposite sides of issues, generally fiscal and earmarks related. There are many other times we find ourselves standing shoulder to shoulder with Congressman Blunt — supporting our soldiers, defending life, and opposing President Obama’s ridiculous healthcare scheme.
Roy Blunt is a good friend of this site. We have passionate disagreements on issues, but our friendship is unwavering....
And previously, Erickson had called Blunt "a porker and recalcitrant on many reform issues."
It is no secret that Roy Blunt, while a conservative standard bearer on social issues, is squishy on fiscal issues. He has been a porker and recalcitrant on many reform issues.
So here is where we find ourselves: Roy Blunt is an extraordinarily nice guy. It’s no secret I have not been a fan of his leadership in the House Republican Conference, but I like him and his staff a great deal.
Erickson's admission that conservatives didn't hold Blunt accountable for his record of deficit spending, unethical behavior and hypocrisy isn't news. But at least he's honest about it.
