Dave Spence thinks you can live on less than $290 a week, even if you work a full-time job and play by all the rules.
[Retired construction worker Mike Riddle] asked Spence whether he’d support raising Missouri’s minimum wage, to which Spence said, “I don’t think government should have any roll [sic] setting minimum wage. It’s supply, demand.”
Is Spence trying to lose votes? The 2006 ballot measure to raise Missouri's minimum wage passed with a whopping 76% of the vote, and a measure to increase Missouri's minimum wage to $8.25 an hour is expected to pass easily this fall. A strong minimum wage is supported by leaders and voters and both parties, but Spence was to junk it entirely.
Just, wow.
So to recap:
- The public bailing out reckless banks like his = good.
- The public setting basic standards to help themselves and their neighbors live with dignity = bad.
This dude needs a clue.
