Politico: Steelman and Akin Stumbling in U.S. Senate Race
Whether one of them is struggling to find a position on the Ryan plan or the other is suggesting liberals hate God, Sarah Steelman and Todd Akin haven't had a great month. Therefore, Politico moved Missouri down a spot in its list of the most competitive Senate races:
4. MISSOURI (Down 1 spot) — Former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman twisted herself into a pretzel trying to explain her position on the Ryan plan. Democrats have prodded her to be more definitive. Fortunately for Steelman, Republican Rep. Todd Akin is also stumbling. His campaign has been forced to retract a press release, has drawn a formal complaint about Akin’s voter registration and has apologized for saying that “the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God.” American Crossroads fired an opening shot against Sen. Claire McCaskill, but Majority PAC quickly countered with an ad defending the first-term Democrat.
Who won June: McCaskill
