Mike Huckabee

Rep. Todd Akin's biggest defender since his offensive remarks about "legitimate rape" last Sunday has been evangelical leader Mike Huckabee. Recently, Huckabee sent an email to supporters slamming national republicans:

He made his mistake, but was man enough to admit it and apologize. I'm waiting for the apology from whoever the genius was on the high pedestals of our party who thought it wise to not only shoot our wounded, but run over him with tanks and trucks and then feed his body to the liberal wolves.

Huckabee knows he can jab at the highest ranks of his own party because he knows they won't lift a finger to ostracize him the way they've shut out Rep. Akin in the last week since he commands his own legions of thousands, if not millions, of followers who tune in to his radio show every day. So even though he's standing next to the most toxic politician the republican party has seen in years, the RNC dares not touch Huck, and has so far not announced that there will be any change to Monday's primetime convention lineup during which Huckabee is scheduled to speak.
