Will Jones and Davis Pass the Hat to Help Pay Their Lawyer's Fines?

Orly Taitz, who represented Reps. Tim Jones and Cynthia Davis in their federal birther suit, has been ordered to pay $20,000 in sanctions for filing frivolous actions in a similar, but separate, lawsuit.

Jones has refused to comment publicly about his role in the lawsuit with Taitz, Davis and others, but Davis has proudly stood by her conspiracy theories.  Rep. Casey Guernsey signed on to help Taitz at one point as well.

Health Care Reform Reminds Cynthia Davis of the Girl She Beat Up in Junior High

Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon) explained this morning why her proposed constitutional amendment is "our only and last hope for protecting Missourians to keep their freedoms and their rights."  Also, Davis committed unspecified acts of violence against a girl in junior high who tried to trip her. I'm probably not explaining it right.  Just listen:

I'm convinced. How 'bout you?

Davis Goes After Rupp and "Liberal Media" With New Campaign Website

Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon) has a new state senate campaign website (www.votecynthia.net), and it's a sight to behold.

Davis has a lot to say.  She laments the way "Sarah Palin was nit-picked and harassed" and complains about "cardboard candidates who only give lip service to our core conservative values."  Davis also has a list of grievances with her opponent, incumbent Sen. Scott Rupp (R-Wentzville), on everything from how he allegedly "shredded our Pro-Life bill two years in a row" to his vote to "put 35,000 more able-bodied Missourians on the welfare roles."

But for obvious reasons, my favorite part of the website is her "Qualifications" section.  Here she positions herself as a crusader against the "liberal media and far-left commentators" who "done their best to intimidate me."

Cynthia Refuses To Back Down From Birtherism, Says Fired Up! Is Trying to "Shame" Her

Steve Walsh caught up with Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon) at Lincoln Days to talk about her campaign to unseat Sen. Scott Rupp (R-Wentzville). She did not disappoint:

“Why is it a negative to talk about our principles and our values?” asks Davis. “That’s a positive. I’ve got nothing to hide. My voting record is strong and clear. He [Rupp] has got a lot to be ashamed of.”

While she is critical of Rupp, Davis has come in for a lot of criticism of her own. She has come under fire, especially in the left wing blogs, for being involved in what is known as the birther movement - the questioning of whether President Barack Obama was born in the United States and is constitutionally allowed to serve as Commander in Chief.

“They’re trying to create shame for people who ask questions,” replies Davis. “That defines the problem right there. Why is there shame in asking questions? It’s a legitimate question and Barack Obama has spent over a million dollars to try and not answer it. If I wanted to answer a question I’d show you my birth certificate if you cared that I was born in Chicago. Obviously, he’s embarrassed of where he’s born because he’s trying to hide the records.”

Absolutely insane.

Birther Lawyer For Tim Jones & Cynthia Davis Makes Appearance in Arizona Senate Race

Orly Taitz, lawyer for Reps. Tim Jones and Cynthia Davis in their federal lawsuit alleging that Barack Obama is actually a Kenyan man who usurped the presidency, is officially an issue in the 2010 election cycle.

These quotes from Republican Rep. J.D. Hayworth aren't all that different from those of his colleague, Rep. Roy Blunt. Last summer, Blunt said birther conspiracy theorists were asking "legitimate" questions about Obama's birth certificate, and said the Missouri and DC press corps lack "any capacity to talk about that [Obams's questionable citizenship] in a legitimate way."

Pratt Shamelessly Invokes Mohler Sex Case To Support New Coercion Bill

This morning before the House Children and Families Committee, Rep. Bryan Pratt (R-Blue Springs) presented his new informed consent/coercion bill (HB2000) which would, among other things, require providers to notify prosecuting attorneys about any abortions provided to women under the age of 17.

Current law requires providers to notify authorities of any pregnancies/abortions for girls under the age of 14.

That, however, did not stop Pratt from telling the committee that his law could have helped prevent some of the abuse allegedly committed by five men arrested in Lafayette County in November for sex crimes against children.  The alleged abuse by the men in the Mohler family is incredibly disturbing (you can read more here); among other things, a key witness in the case says she had an abortion at age 11 1/2

Pratt told the committee his bill could prevent similar abuse in the future.

Pivot & Shoot: It's Now Impossible To Uncover Voter Impersonation Fraud In Missouri

One week ago today, Rep. Stanley Cox (R-Sedalia) told the House Elections Committee that "there are countless examples of voter fraud" in Missouri.  Cox has long been a proponent of laws to require voters to show government-issued photo identification at the polls, and is sponsoring a constitutional amendment this year (HJR64) to make that happen.

Then Saturday, longtime voter suppression activist Thor Hearne rejected questions from a conservative crowd in Chesterfield about the possibility of widespread voter fraud.  "I'm not a big believer in conspiracy theories," he said about the conservative hysteria about fraud he helped gin up. (And yes, Hearne's about-face on this subject is still puzzling).

So today, Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon) tried out a brand new message at this week's Elections Committee hearing. In her words, it's now "virtually impossible" to know if there's voter impersonation fraud in Missouri (the kind of fraud a photo id would attempt to thwart).

You bring up that people haven't proven how much fraud there is, but absent this law, it would be virtually impossible -- after this law is passed is when we may find out how much fraud there was. I would recommend that we need to try it as an experiment, and then we'll [inaudible] be able to discover how many people  showed up.

Just Another Day in the Life of Cynthia

Last night's Corrections and Public Institutions Committee hearing had an unexpected guest: Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O'MyGoodness).  Though Davis does not sit on the committee, she interrupted its proceedings to help herself to some of the lobbyist-sponsored grub.

Fellow Republican Rep. Mike Lair (R-Chillicothe) was unable to hide his disgust, shaking his head and growling at his colleague.

If only this were an unusual event for Rep. Davis.

Cox So Overwhelmed With Vote Fraud That He Can't Explain How Photo ID Laws Would Stop It

Rep. Stanley Cox (R-Sedalia) was back in front of the House Elections Committee today, asking his colleagues to support his newest Photo ID constitutional amendment (HJR64).*  This year's proposal does not include any enabling language, and would require future General Assemblies to actually draft and pass the legislation to suppress voter turnout for the poor, disabled, elderly, etc.

To kick off his presentation, Cox said the vote fraud in Missouri is so pervasive, it's impossible to quantify the extent to which it has corrupted our political process.  In his words:

There are unscrupulous individuals that operate within our system and lessen the importance of your vote.  And, in fact, folks all over the state.

There are countless examples of voter fraud in the state, in this state and elsewhere.  It comes in various forms.

One common theme in this, in these vote fraud schemes is that it's underhanded and secret.

Listen:

A statement like might lead you to conclude Cox has so many examples of fraudulent voting that he's simply unable to count them all.  But when pressed to provide just a few of these "countless" examples that his legislation would help address by centrist Rep. Chris Kelly (D-Columbia) , he fumbled and stumbled to provide a coherent response.

Opinion on HB 1233 from an actual foster youth over 12

This bill is ridiculous. Anyone who would support it is as well. I have been in the system for over a year, I was sixteen at my first court date. I was scared and unsure of what was going to happen. My GAL was there for me, before court and in court, to help me and advocate for what was best for me.  Not a single person who has not been in the system or had a child in the system could really know what it is like to have your future decided for you in a court room. Most of the time being taken from your parents is not a pleasant thing and neither is court.  I understand that court is a necessity for all foster youth and that if it is that traumatic of an experience they do not have to go. Children over the age of twelve do not suddenly possess a magical power and confidence that enables them to easily advocate for themselves. Personally, I think everyone needs an advocate in the court room, no matter what your age. We need our GAL's as much as adults in court rooms need their lawyers.

Please help me and spread the word about stopping this bill.

Translating Cynthiaspeak

You may have found Cynthia Davis' interview about health care reform with FOX Business confusing and unintelligible; fear not. I have been hard at work translating her words into something more digestible for the masses.  Her language is shown in italics below -- it's too hot to handle otherwise.

Fatigued by Villicators

Well, first of all, I'm a little bit fatigued with all the people vilifying the people with no insurance. There are plenty of good people in Missouri who don't have insurance and they do pay their bills. So I would appreciate it if those in Washington would stop all that rhetoric about people with no insurance are the ones who are bankrupting our health care system.

And, secondly, I don't appreciate them vilifying all insurance companies, especially since they're trying to use those to force everybody to buy insurance.

"Given the comments and the ideology coming out of Cynthia Davis and Tim Jones, this might be a decent idea."

Davis: Talking About The Costs of The Uninsured as Bad as Racism and Hairism

Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon) says you're a bad person if you think the uninsured contribute to higher health care costs for individuals and families with insurance.  From her weekly newsletter, as posted by The Turner Report:

Blaming the uninsured for driving up the cost of healthcare is just as prejudiced as blaming any other group of people merely by social, economic affiliation skin color [sic] or hair styles. Those with no insurance who pay their bills in a timely manner are likely to pay their medical bills in a timelier manner than the insurance companies. Our enemy is not the uninsured. Our problems are created by artificially inflated prices, minimal disclosure and a lack of incentive to shop for the most affordable medical care.

Cynthia Davis Commentary Prompts Audible Gasps In Health Policy Hearing

The comments of Birther Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O'Fallon) at today's House Health Care Policy Committee hearing have Capitol insiders buzzing a bit this afternoon.

According to multiple individuals in attendance, Davis left fellow representatives and the crowd aghast as she shared her thoughts with a witness -- who happened to be an African American -- about the nutrition habits of 'your people' and 'your community.'

Davis reportedly questioned the witness about her faith background, and then expressed concern about what she perceived to be poor choices made by food stamp recipients, making multiple references to white milk being preferable to chocolate milk.
